Panchmukhi Hanuman

Panchamukhi Hanuman may be a kind of Lord Hanuman. Panchamukhi suggests that "five-faced". Lord Hanuman assumed this way to kill Mahiravana, a robust Rakshasa black-magician and practician of the dark arts throughout the Sanskrit literature war. Mahiravana had taken Lord avatar and Lakshmana captive, and therefore the solely thanks to kill him was to extinguish 5 lamps burning in several directions, all at an equivalent instant. Hanuman assumed His Panchamukha type and accomplished the task, therefore killing the rakshasa, and releasing avatar and Lakshmana. The 5 faces of Panchamukha Hanuman are those of Sri Hayagriva, Sri Narasimha, Sri Garuda, Sri Varaha and Hanuman Himself.
